Collapsible harmonica

Collapsable free ribs

Description

This example is based on collapsible structure that is not constructed as classical telescopic mechanism where tolerances are crucial for mechanism realization, in this free ribs model tolerances are free since there is significant gap between ribs, connection between elements (ribs) is achieved using inner liner (or a bag) and ropes (structure opens like harmonica). Ropes hold harmonica in upper position (attached to bike connection bar). Different designs are possible, shown can be used as trailer for bicycles, scooters, or even as suitcase. Available production resources are not disclosed in definition, however it is mentioned possibility of using bio-composites (assuming that you have resins that are not emissive and waste producing, otherwise this is then not exactly compatible with stated eco vision), ribs can be made by covering (stiffening operation) rope or filing hoses that are bended around suitable support (after resin curing you get a needed element- with other composite reinforcement elements added if desired). Or you can form cylinders of different diameter and from sheets of bendable material and cut out a number of ribs of that diameter. You can use this concept and design for bikes and scooters (assuming electrical) trailers but also for suitcases .
