RAZOR- the slim & smart trailer
'Razor' is a modular bicycle trailer, which can morph shape for easy storage and versatile use case scenarios.
Description
The idea is to create a bicycle trailer which is easy to store in compact places, as well as it should be made with least amount of CO2 footprint. Razor is a bicycle trailer, which can change shape depending upon the use. The rider can change configuration of the trailer and lock the trailer to a specific configuration by locking pins provided. The configurations are shown in the image board 2. Following configurations are possible: 1. Folded and detached configuration for storage (Hanging on the wall) 2. Folded and attached to bicycle with leaf spring (tow configuration) 3.Expanded configuration where a kid can ride on it. 4. Expanded configuration with additional arms out for box and bags shifting. In its folded configuration, it can be hung on the walls as it is flat; ideal to store in closed rooms. The user can take it out and unfold to create a trolley versions out of it. Then depending upon whether a kid needs to be accommodated or boxes are to be taken; the folding frames can be configured. There are slots in the frame, where the folded sub frames rest. Once sub frames are out; there are ropes attached to them, which form a resting surface (surface made by ropes for resting the boxes). The material for frame of the trailer can be hardwood or cardboard as per strength requirement. Some parts like axle and main frame must be made up of steel only; as strength requirement of these parts can be met easily that way. So carbon footprint has been kept low, although not zero. The RAZOR trailer while being towed (configuration where only one wheel of trailer is touching the ground) is making the process energy efficient. There is minimal contact area of trailer with the ground, so reduced friction and energy saving.
